HUTT VALLEY NOTES

1 Tho Princo of Wales is to land on the. Petono beach from one of the launches of H.M.S. Renown and take part in the pageant. Arrangements for this are therefore being put in hand. On Saturday the Pelone Working Men's Club lield it.? annual picnic at the ITutt Park under ideal conditions, and there was a big attendanco of members and friends. The Harmonic Society which Mr. Thomas Walsh tried some time ago to start in Petono has now been established, chiefly by personal canvass. About twenty-five members have enrolled, and the assistance of Mr. E. Healy has been secured. Ho has offered to undertake the task of teaching and conducting for twelve months without chnrge, and it is expected that when the first practice is held this week there will bo at least fiftv persons present. Mr. A. E. Wright, of tho "Mana«atu Standard" staff, is spending a short holiday at Potone.

Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, was crowded oil Saturday by picnickers, there being four parties on the ground. Among these were the employees of the Woollen Mills, w.ho turned out in force. A most enjoyable day was spent. Mr. W. J. Gardner having l resigned from the position of secretary and treasurer of tho Hutt Pork Committee, Mr. Sturmau has been appointed to succeed 'him.

The fee to be. charged for the use of the Hutt Park football grounds has.been fixed at £3 3s. per ground for -tho seaeon.

A special meeting of thn Petone Borough Council to go into the matter of the staff's wages is to be held to-night.' The election of the Hutt Licensing Committee takes place to-morrow. There arc five vacancies and eleven candidates.
