AUSTRALIAN IMPORTATIONS OF LEATHER GOODS. Mr. Massoy briefly referred on Saturday to the challenge made to him by Mr. C. .T. Ward. The statement of Mr. Ward was in nffcet that Australian boots, quality for nuality, we're not being imported into New Zealand and underselling the New Zealand art'cle. The Prime Minister said that the figures he had used in connection with the export of hides to Australia, and the importation of boots from there, were from tho official ■coords of the Customs Department. He was convinced tlint they were right. What they proved was that there was a' very large importation to this country of boots made from leather tanned in Australia, and possibly coming (though this was very difficult to prove) from 'hides 'exported from this .country to tho Commonwealth.
