A DROWNING AT WAIKANAE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, March 7. A sensational accident occurred on the Waikanae beacb at 7 o'clock last evening. when a married man named Ronald M'lnnes, aged 51 years, was drowned. Deceased, with another man named Leonard Burne. went fishing in a flatbottomed boat. The boat drifted to within 100 yards of the beach and capsized in the breakers. Both men started to swim nsliore, then 'turned back and attempted to right the boat. They failed, and started again for the sho'.'e. M'lnnes called for assistance, and Burne attempted to :ro back, but was washed away by a breaker. Burne got near the land and was pulled ashore by Mr. ano Mrs. Ernest Warren. Mr. Ralph Mcrso swam through the breakers to the rescue of M'lnnes, whom he brought ashore in a stato of collapse. Artificial respiration was tried for half an hour, but without result.

SUICIDE AT MASTERTON. Masterton, March 7. Robert M'TCinnon, a married man, aged 37, who had been a station manager in the district for some years shot himself in the head with n revolver at his home at Lansdovne on Saturday afternoon. He died later in the Hospital. At the inquest it was' shown that deceased had been suffering from nervous breakdown, and a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was relumed. A man named Cornelius Wiley was • admitted to Hie Greytoini Hospital last night suffering from serious injuries which he sustained in colliding with ft goods train while he was riding a motorcycle. A motor-car ran into a inotor-eycle and sidecar occupied by Mr. Albert Falenrner, his wife, and two children in Masfarton this morning. One of the children was admitted to the Hospital suffering from sovere injuries, while tlio others reooivod a shaking and abrasions.
