The hurst of wet weather which struck a good deal of the gin in crop in stook has beon a factor in bringing about this result. The cut crops suffered a good deal of d,image, particularly from Ashburton southwards -nto North Otngo, in which area many fine paddocks of stooks, both of oats and wheat, bear a discoloured appearance. In some localities the grain in stook is Hprouting. The proportion of seconds, which previously promised to be exceptionally small, will be increased to ordinary proportions, as a result. Oafs have firmed up, and all classes are meeting with a better tone. Up to ss. for good Duns has been paid at country stations. One line of particularly good sample made k\. mora than this. Hotrever, this figure is beyond tho market quotation; Algerians have been sold at country stations at a figure excess of Gs. Id., but this was for particularly fine sample, of which thoro is very little a'bout. The quality now being offered is generally very inferior. Clean, heavy saniplo of Cartons and Huns is worth Gs„ but threepenco to sixpence less covers the class of Algerians now offering. The stagnant market has improved in Gortons, owing to tho wet weather, and also to soma inquiry from the north. Up to te. fld. at country stations is iho market value. At present, however, little is doing, as merchants are not showing much inclination to speculate. Chaff is firmer. It is worth from ,£G 10s. to ,C 7 at country stations. The potato market is lifeless.'
