Mr. Newton, the Commissioner, was not present, but the assessors made an effort to reach a settlement. The main' dispute is over the wages claimed. Considerable time was spent in discussing these, but both sides were firm, and no settlement could be reached This is the second time the representatives have mot and failed to reach an Agreement. The council lins adjourned until Monday.
