THE TRAMWAY SERVICE
NORMAL RUNNING TO-DAY.
The city trams "went slow" yesterday in order to give the repair gang a chance to push on with emergency -wort at tlio power-house. The seat of the trouble was the brick lining of the furnaces beneath the nowest of the big water-tube boilers ■working at the Wakefield street powerlionse. On the lining being stripped, it was found that a number of nre-biicks had uielted and mn into one another, until ,thev resembled lumps of scoria from a volcano. The heat developed in these chain-grated furnaces must be. tremendous when it is sufficient to liquefy (ire-clay bricks. Good repair wort was done yesterday and last lrght, and it is anticipated that the boiler affected will be in action again this morning, and that the usual service will be resumed. In order to economise in power yesterday, the cars veto run at "series" speeds —a'boul: half, the usual jiace'.'!
