Thn postponement of the Wanganui Trotting Club's Meeting 'is sure to have u prejudieal effect on the success of the gathering. Many of the southern reinsmen in attendance will be able to remain only for one day's racing, as-they have- engagements at Timaru on Thursday. v Dannevirke acceptances close to-morrow at 8 p.m. , Spanner seems to be one nf the "lion nt home but lamb in the field" order. His work, on the training tracks is of o verv high ordor, but he does not race up to it. ■• Six of the winners at Wanganui on Thursdnv raid what is known in racing circles as "over tho limit." The victory of Gold Tie in the Caulfield "Futurity Stakes, run on Saturday last. furni>ih«w another striking illustration of happy results attending inbreeding to the St. Simon line, and in the case of Gold Tie such takes the pronounced order. Malster, the sire of Gold Tie, was got by Bill of Portland (son of St. Simon), while Dependent, the dam of .Gold Tie, is a daughter of Haut Briou (son of St. Simon). As a yearling Gold Tie was sold for ISOgns.j so he has been a rare bargain.
Simonides was backed for a fortune at Wanganui on Saturday: but through had luck he missed a place. He \ras ; flying over everything nt the finish, and' the performance is likely. to keep him in tho public eye when next lie races.
The St. Alwynne gelding Ard nu Itee. who is owned by the ex-New Zealnnder; H. R. Telford, is to contest the Australian Cup. Ard na Ree showed good form at Randwiek- in the spring, whore he defeated Rossini in the Trial Stake* He regarded as having a grea* chance in one of the cups, but he d k veloped shin soreness nnd ran badlv both at Caulfiehl and Flemington., Sines then he.has been freshened up. and he is expscted to make a good showing ti. day. - '
The Eiecutive of the Jockeys' Association has sent to cvet.v racing club in the Dominion a cc-py of its requests for the betterment of its members. The requests number thirty, and as a whole they nre temperate' and could easily be prnnte'd. The final paragraph reads: "In submitting 'for your consideration the preceding suggestions for the betterment of the conditions of members' of pur association, wo would point out to you that we have approached the New Zealand Racing Conference with practically the same suggestions, and havu communicated with the conference on nino different occasions since November, 1910. but wo have been, unable to obtain an answer in any shnpe or form."
A number of yearlings bred by Mr. R. 11. Currie, of Kai Iwi, were submitted to auction at Wanganui on Friday. For tli? better lots there was spirited compe tition, but some of the juveniles fonni? little favour with buyers. The pick nf f>" collection, n nice-looking colt bv»Al> surd from Sen Elf, went to Mr. W.'P Stead at 625gn5., while the/ Auckland owner-twiner,' Mr. J. Amongst the runners in the Australian Cun i this afternoon is the 10-ycav-otd Carbine gelding Defence who i*-a> successful in the snnie rnco two years ago with 7st 111b. in the saddle, which is 'lib. more than he is asked to enrrr to-day. Defence showed some form hr winning the Wyndham Handicap at thf Williamstown MeetingMnst month, but h* has always had the name ; of being unreliable. , Sasanof. was not "entered, for any events at the Napier Meeting, but it is understood that, birring a little soreness, the Martian gelding is quite himself, and he will be raced ai the C.T.i:. Faster Meeting, and also at. the Tre'itham and Manawatu autumn gatherings. HIGH-PRICEiTYEARUNGS. , (Roc. March 2. 1.35 a.m.) Sydney, March 1.
