FATAL FIRE

A fire occurred at an early hour on Saturday morning,in a cottage at Koputni'on occupied by a Maori named TuwaliDri Hcta, by which a.littlo girl about six years of ago lost her life. She "vas living with Hotn, who was her guardian. Beta was awakened by finding tho house on fire, and tho (lames had such a hold that it was with difficulty that ho got his'wifs out- through tho bedroom window. Ho then returned and endeavoured to reach, the room in which the child was sleeping, but was unable to do so on account of the volume of fire and the dense smoke, and the girl was burned to death. In his endeavour to reach the child Heta was very badly burned.
