DUNEDIN BAND CONTEST
Py Telcsraob—Press Association.' Dunedin, March 1. The band contest was opened to-day. The Queen Alexandra and the 2nd Regimental Band tWangnnui) \ m \ to withdraw owing to tho indisposition of Mr. G. Buckley, their conductor. Other bands that entered, bnt nro not now expected to compete are: sth Regimental Band (Wellington), Bth South Canterbury Mounted Rifles' Band, Bth Company Southland Regiment's Band, the Napier City Band, the Hamilton Municipal Band, the Whnngarei Municipal Silver Band. To-day's results:— fl Flat Bass Solo (own selection): R. E. Olney (9th Hawko's Bay), 1; J. Baxter (Invercargill Hibernian), 2. A protest was entered against tho winner, on tho ground that ho used an E Plat instrument. B B Flat Base Solo (own selection): W. Kenton '(Woolston), 1; T. Williams (St. Kilda), 2; H. Hughes (12th Nelson and Marlborough Regimental Bands) and A. Guthrie (Wangnnui Garrison), 8, equal. Trombone Trio: 2nd South Canterbury Regiment; 1; 12th Nelson and Marfborough Regimental Band, 2; Woolston Band, 3.
