The Blicrtngo of benzine is causing a good deal of inconvenience in Palmcr-sl-on North and the- surrounding distinct at the present time. Owners of motor-curs and lorries, as well as those who use benzine ns a source of power for milking machines, are very anxious as to the future.
The conference of Rechabitej, which has b?cn sitting in Palmcrston North during the past we?k. concluded yesterday. It was reported that the total funds of the order in the New Zealand Central Division up to December 31, 1919, were as follow:—Sick' fund, £35,823; funeral fund. -£31,80(1; contingent fund, £3S«; or a total of .£70,758. The next conference will be held in Wellington in* September. 1022, when the jubilee of the Order will be celebrated. The conffrcwo parsed a motion expressing "ratification at the increased vote for prohibition, and expressing also the firm conviction that prohibition would rid th" country of a menace to its citimis. I! was resolved to urge the Education Department to place temp?ranee wall shoot* in schools where per'odical reference could be made to them. At Taihapo show. Mr. J. J. Brycc's well-known hunter Twiliulit, whjch has won so manv competition?, was again successful. She has quite reco'-orrd fr"m the severe fall she had at Woodville. That fall has kent her out of several of the shows. On the present occasion the mare won the open hunters' competition, for 'which a cup, valued at 25 gninens, was given, and also a cash prize of ,£lO. Mis* Mendes, of Palmerstnn North, won the ladies' driving competition.

On Wednesday nine butchers at the freezing works contracted influenza and collapsed while at work. All are suffering from the disease in a mild form, and have been isolated. The health officer reports that eight fresh cases, alLof the mild v type, wero notified in Mnsterton vestordav. This'does, not mean, h-wever, that there is a recurrence of the disease, as most of the new 'cases are the outcome of contact with either Wnimrawa men or victims of the recent outbreak. .• '
During the month, of January the sum of £822 lCs. fid. was collected in rates bv the Mnsterton Borough Council. .At the end of last month the general account showed a debit balance of £15,051 ss'.-Bd.
The Eeatherston Borough Council has decided to give special consideration to n proposal to revert to, tho use of acetylene gas, after a trial in street lighting with a : r gas. A proposal to raise a loan, of £5000' for permanent street improve-, monts n;as shelved.
