At an inquest on Hie body of the late Mr. Samuel Jensen, of Waihnkekc, who died suddenly on, Monday evening while harvesting, a verdict was returned that death was £ duo to haemorrhage of tho brain. On Monday night five stacks of oats belonging to Mr. E. O'Connor were de-. stroyed by fire. The slacking had only been completed that day, and there was no sign of fire when the workers left. The stacks contained about 80 tons, and were not insured. The loss to Mr. O'Connor is over .CBOO. Tho recently-formed Carterton Caledonian Society is arranging to hold evening runs. Mr. R. Selby has been appointed secretary, and Mr. A. P. Hogg treasurer. The society already has a membership o'f sixty.
