SILVER COINAGE
BILL FOR REDUCING ITS FINENESS. (Rec. February 22, 5.5 p.m.) London, February .18. The House of Commons read a second time a Bill reducing the fineness of silver coinnee. Mr. Chamberlain explained the reason for tho enhanced price of silver, which was 28d. per ounco in 191*. but mm now over 88d. It would probably bo a long time beforo a return to tho ore-war level. Mr. Chamberlain rejected a proposal to t.bolish threepenny nieces, for which there was a great demand. Tho Treasury has in readiness nuantities of ss. and smaller notes, which Vwore undesirable but must bo issued it the Bill were not pa«sed.-Auß.-H./i. Cablft4A®a«
