Petone residents have decided to. make a'presentation to' Mr.'. Canning''{ex-cpn-f-table),' who resigned from the police force to undertake the duties of caretaker of the Ilult Park. The .presentation is to \» made this week. ,
During Inst week a party from tho Wellington Working Men's Club puid a visit to the Petone Club, and spent the evening playing various games, including billiards, cards, etc.
Mr. W. Donovan presided over a special meeting of the Petone' Rugby Football Club, nt : which was discussed tho project "to take a team- to. Westport at Easter. .Mr. C. Green explained the details-of- tho-'trip, anil; gave an estimate of the cost. It was 'decided to accept the invitation of the- Buller Rugby Club. Messrs. C. Hamsdcn, C.. Green, and M. Comer were appointed selectors, the appointment of a manager being left over until -the next meeting. It has been' decided that if tho proposal to entertain the Prince of Wales jit Petono with a pageant representing the landing of the. first -settlers should come to nought, a carnival will be held on Easter Monday, specinl provision being made for the amusement of the children.*' It was from a meeting held to consider the advisablenoss of holding such a gala to advertise the attractions of the beach, that the suggestion of the pageant came.
