INFLUENZA
FOUR DAYS* FIGURES, Notifications of cases of influenza throughout the Dominion continue to show a decline. During the four days between February 15 and noon on February 16 the following cases were reported:— ■ Mild. Pneumonic. Severe. North Auckland 1 — — Auckland 44 — 3 Hawke's Bay .... 4o ~ 1 Wellington 328 7 i Canterbury 03 1' — Otago 332 3 2 Totals 813 10 10 Grand total, 833. "The position is becominc more satisfactory," said Dr. Watt, of the Public Health Department, in commenting 'on the figures yesterday. "The notifications show a steady decrease as compared with the corresponding period last week—the actual position sho~wing a total of approximately 800 against 1400. Furthermore, the type of the disease is milder inasmuch as for this period the, pnenmonic cases have been approximately only 1 in SO, compared with the previous period's 1 in 47." The embargo piaced on the attendance of children at -picture theatres will be removed in the Wellington public health district as from to-day. AUSTRALIAN CASES. Brisbane, February 17. Several cases of influenza are reported from Cairns, but the authorities state that tliero is 110 cause for alarm. ■ There have been thirty-one deaths at Thursday Island—Press Assn.
