Mr. V. Ilvams, accompanied by Mrs. Hvams. arrived in Wellington from Sydney by the Moeraki yesterday. Mr. J. Dunlop, of Dunedin, arrived in W ellincton from Sydney by the Moeraki. Mr. James Laurenson. one of the successful applicants for the position of inspector of cargo working gear, has decided not to accept the appointment. Captain G. B. Banks, 0.8. E., New Zealand Staff Corps, has been transferred tn the.'reserve of officers (general list) with the rank of major. Mr. Alec. Campbell, of the firm of Messrs. _ Campbell and Bourke, who has been laid aside with a rather severe attack of influenza, is now convalescent. Mr. Daniel Bourke, of the same firm, was also incapacitated at the same time, but took the ailment less severely. Since her arrival in Wellington from Europe the Rev. Mother Mary Joseph Aubert has been seriously ill, but she has now recovered her normal health. Mr. W. E. Caldow, secretary of the Choral Union, has returned from a business visit to England. It. was announced by Mr. D. J. Nathan nt the annual meeting of the Wellington Gas Company yesterday that on account of his approaching departure for England he would not bs able to stand for re-elec-tion to the directorate, and on the motion of Mr. H. Beauchamp, the meeting ■unanimously passed the following motion:—"The shareholders in meeting as-sembled-learn with regret that, in conseouence of his early departure for England. Mr. Nathan does not intend to offer himself for re-election, and the shareholders desire to place on record their appreciation of the long and valuable services rendered to the company by Mr. •Nathan, and extend to'liira their best thanks for such services." Mr. David Carter, manager for the TTnion Steam Ship Company for Fiji, is at present in Wellington on furlough, and has been revisiting the West Coast, where he was located 6ome years ago. Sir. and Mrs. Carter will |o 011 to Auckland to-morrow, and will leave there on their return to Suva by the Navua on February 28. Mr. H. M. Didsbury, who, with Mr. IL A. Marriner, is to manage the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, is at present in Wellington. having relinquished the duties of manacer at Dunedin to take up the more important position in the northern city. . His place at Dunedin is to be filled ».v Mr. H. W. Kelly, at present manager of the company's Wanganui branch, and formerly of Wellington. The vacnncy at Waneanui is to be filled by Mr. Noel Nelson, who, recently returned from Singapore, where ho acted as relieving manager for some time.
