CONTROL OF PRICES LOCAL TRIBUNALS TO BE ESTABLISHED TO CHECK PROFITEERING The Pi'imo Minister informed a DOMINION reporter vesterday. that the Government had decided to rstnblisli local tribunals to investigate charges of profiteering under the Board of Trado Act passed by Parliament last year. Tribunals of' the kind proposed wore already in operation in Britain, where they hnd been able to assist the public and cleat 1 up ninny doubtful points. The names of (he members of the local tribunals for the cities would be announced shortly, added Mr. Masscy. Each tribunal would' consist of three members. Any person, considering himself or herself aggrieved liv the price of any commodity or article, would be entitled to place' a complaint before the tribunal nnd produce evidence. The tribunal would' consider the case, oxamive, the facts generally, and decide whether or not a prima facie ease of nrofifvering had been established. If it thought there wa.s profiteering, it would refer the case to the Crown prosecutor in the district. The tribunals for Wellington and Auckland have been arranged. The Board of Trado is visiting Christchurch partly to arrange the personnel of a tribunal for that city.
