A MURDER CHARGE
PENROSE MOTOR FATALITY. (By Telcsrnph—Press Association.) Auckland, February 16. A charge of murder arising out of the deatli of Arthur John Horton, who was killed at Penrose on January 26 as the result of a collision with a motor-car, was preferred against Alfred Thomas Percy Dare, aged 23,. a carrier by occupation, who was arrested because the police' believed him to 'have been the driver of the car. Accused was furthor charged with having unlawfully converted to his own use a motor-car belonging to Arthur E. Patterson, and with having done" ,£44 worth of <iamage to it. After evidence had been heard byi Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., counsel for accused submitted that there was no evidence to justify the indictment for murder. The Magistrate said that he would leave the matter to the Crown Prosecutor. Dare then.pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial. Counsel asked for bail, but this was refused.
