DISEASE CONTINUES TO DECLINE. Officials of tho "Health Department stated vestordav that tlio position regarding the outbreak of influenza in the Dominion to improve, and that considerably fever cast's wore being reported. .' Dunn? tho week ended Fobruary 16, 543 casts of influenza were reported in the "Wellington public health district, a decrease of 307 compared with last week. Of tho number notified, Hi wsro pneumonia cases. 8 were severe, and tho remainder were classified as mild. The notifications included 215 from Nelson, 110 from ■Wellington, and 52 from Wnniranui. Tho district health officer (Dr. I. E. Faris) stated yesterday that tho indications were that tho outbreak had about ran its course. As timo went on tho eases notified were becoming milder in tvoe. Tho' Nelson .notifications were all n'id. and the latest bulletin did not contain anv bearing a date later than February 10. DEATHS AT THURSDAY ISLAND. Brisbane, February 16. Deaths from influenza at Thursday island now total twenty-seven. The lack of nourishing foods, as a result of the shipping strike is greatly hampering the treatment of patients.-Prcss Assn.
