Ballingor intimating that ho was obliged to resign from i the general committer; of the' associatkii under medical advice. Several monitors spoke in very high terms _of the services rendered to the association bv Mjr. Ballinger. After some discussion i* was decided to nslc Mr. Ballinger to withdraw his resignation and to accept Extended' leave of absence, so that when .'his health was restored he might come tacTc to the association.

Mr. Parker was formerly manager' of Messrs. Dalgety and Company's office ip Christclnirch for fifteen years, but in ,189s he left for England. Mr. IT. B. Clarkson has returned to Wellington after a brief visit to the South Jsland. Ho proposes to cross to Sydney ; by this weeks boat, and after a short sfay in Australia will leave by the Megantjc for New .York, via Panama. Mr. Cljirkson will visit France and England before coming back to New Zealandt ' Mr. Ei A, Tanner, of the firm of Tanner Brcf., leaves on a business trip to London .on Saturday next. Mr. Tanner has during the absence of Mr. W. E. Caldow, been acting as secretary of the Choral TiJnion for six months past. The dfcath occurred on February 5 of Mr. Heribert Trnharne Rces. manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at Hastings. The late Mr. Rees, who was well knpwn and respected in Hawke's Bay, undenvent an operation for appendicitis, but his health was such that he was unable to recover. He joined the National' Bank at Hokitika about 25 years age. Later he was transferred to Greymoitth, whero he rose to the position of accountant, and in December, 1913, went to'\Napier. In 1018 he was appointed manager at the Hastings branch of the baink, succeeding Mr. von Dadelszen in that position, and holding it till his deaths Mr. R<>es was married in 1014 and is survived by his wife and sis sisters. ' Mr. C. J|f. Benzoni, district railway engineer for., Southland, has been transferred to Wanganui, where he'will take up his duties next month. His place in the south-will be taken by Mr. J. K. Lowe, of G[i:eymouth. Mr. S. fE. Blanch, headmaster of Christ's' College, has tendered his resignation, to take effect from January 31 next. Mr. Blanch intends to retire from active woiifc in his profession (states a Press Association telegram from Christchurch). Mr. Honice' Hunt, the brilliant Wellington pinitist, who was interned in Germany for the term of the' war, is returning to Now) Zealand. According to a recent letter, Mr. Hunt hoped to secure a passage by. 'a steamer sailing towards the end of January. Mr. E. P.vrie Bush, of the Williamson Musical Comedy Company, has received cabled instructions to proceed to Sydney. by the first ,';steamer. Ho is there to appear.jn a new-comedy entitled "Tilly of. BloomsburyJ" which has been quite a, success in Bondon.
The death; occurred at the Wellington Hospital on, Sunday of Mr. J. H. M'Millan, a prominent resident of Petone, at the age of 6J years. Deceased,'who was born in came to New Zealand when a boyji Prior to coming to Petone he was engaged on the Christchurch "Press," afthr which he was employed in the Petono Workshops, where he remained until tho time of his death. Ho was nppomM J.P. by the Hon. W. Pember Reeves and was the first Labour man to holtl that position. Deceased took a keen interest in local affairs nnd was an official of St. David's Presbyterian Chiirci, a member of the Orange Lodge and Iretone Working Men's Club. He leaves a ividow and thirteen children, and his inofer resides in ChTistchurch. Mr. Alex. K. Anderson, M.A., Fellow of the Royafi Historical Society (England), of DurieJin, was yesterday unanimoufly appointed principal of St. Andrew's Prestpterian College, Christchurch. Mii Anderson has held positions on the- 'staffs of the Waitaki and Otago Boys' High Schools.—Press Assn. Colonel T. W. Mr. M. F. jlnstone, who for the past twelve years nas been a prominent member of the Brougham Hill Tennis Club, is being transferred by the Audit Department, to Auckland, and last Saturday afternoon the members of the club presented him Cthroitgh Mr. S. Roberts, one of the vice-Dresitfents) with a framed photo<rraDh of the. courts. Mr. D. Sturrock, Inspector of Schools for Marlborough, is to be transferred to Wellington, aijid will be succeeded by Mr. Warren, one of the Auckland district insnectorS. Mrs. Godwin! formerly matron of the Wanganui G'oficgiate School, died last evening, states : a Press Association telecram from AVamganui.
