EX-SERVICE MEN
ONE GREAT ORGANISATION HOPED FOR. (Rec. February 8, 5.5 p.m.) London, February 7. A meeting of the Imperial Ex-Service Association was held at Australia House this afternoon, Major-General Sir Frederick Mauricc presiding. A resolution was. unanimously carricd in favour of amalgamation with the Officers' Association and supporting in every way tho scheme outlined at tho meeting at the Mansion House on January 31. Earl Ilaig, in a speech, said that he had at heart one great organisation to obtain employment for ex-service men of all ranks in the Empire. He emphasised that they did not want charity, but the opportunity to work with, tho prospect of a happy future. (Cheers.)— Aus.-N.Z Cable Assn.-fleuter. [The scheino hero referred to was first mentioned in tho following cablegram, which was published last Wednesday:— The Officers' Association, having for its object the betterment of.the lot of exofficers, was formally inaugurated at. the Mansion House, under the joint presidency of Earl Haig, Earl Beatty, and General Sir H. Tronchard. Admiral Beatty, in a speech, said that when it was thoroughly established in London, tho work of the association would be extended to the nrovinces, and then to the overseas Dominions. The association would fill up the present gaps between the Departments of Stale and the numerous voluntary associations. Field-Marshal Haig hai'il there were 20,000 ex-officers unemployed through no fault of their own, and 33,000 wore disabled and existing on an average pension of ,070 a year, lie appealed to the public to provide half a million storling to assist tho work of tho association.]
