PACIFIC COAST-SERVICES
Sir,—Having noticed the statements of Mr. ,T. B. Clarkson, it occurred to me that it might be feasable when reconsidering subsidies, etc.. for the Vancouver and San Francisco services to mnko arrangements for tho Tunning of the Vancouver and San Francisco steamers to Auckland and Wellington one trip and tho next Wellington nnd Auckland. Thus cargo brought by either eorvice could bo discharged without transhipment and passengers could go either by steamer or trains from Auckland to Wellington or nee versa; and no doubt a good number of passengers would be enabled to make tho co.istal trip between Wellington and Auckland in comfort, avoiding tho tedious railway journey, tho trains being often uncomfortably packed. Besides the subsidy being contributed to by people in nil parts of New Zealand, all parts of Now Zealand should receive fuller consideration aud this I think is better accomplished by linking up the oversea mail steamers with the Lyttelton-Wellington ferry service. The South Island cirtainly requires better consideration and service than it has received in the past, as it contributes its quota towards the services.—l am, etc., NEW ZEALAND.
