J -Lukes statement at the meeting ot the Central Progress League in Wellington on Holiday,'"that the volume of current that would bo supplied to Wellington by .the Mangahao scheme would not bo sufficient [or ordinary domestic iwrpose.?. ■ The Bupplv would not equal the demand until such "time as the Lake Waikaremoaiia was harnessed. The Wellington City Council had seen the difficulty with which it would be faced in the near future, and had ordered steam r pw»r plant, so that the tram and light services would bo maintained-" Mr. MacDonald, in reply, said that Wellington, despite the increased cost of material,-was undoubtedly going ahead and building vapidly, so that tramways and lighting would' lie a serious consideration. "I am quite convinced that Waikarenioana must lio gone on with as soon as possible, in order to supplement Mangahao."
