In the opinion of "The Times" (writes a London correspondent) the designs of tho No* Zealand postage stamps, selected by Sir Joseph Ward when lie was in Londpn early this year,' "constitute otio of the most effective' stamp issues that has been seen for some time." The "Manchester Guardian" remarks: "The >ie\v Zealand Postal authorities, who are deservedly credited with the issue of the best-looking stamps bearing a portrait of King George, are now responsible for (lie first series of 'Victory' stamps in the Empire. Tho figure of a lion has appeared but rarely on British slumps— probably the criticism aroused by the underfed specimen shown on the first (f tho King George stamps created a prejudice that has been hard to dispcl-*-but in this issue three of the six New Zealand stamps show that very imposing uso of tho lion can bo made."
