EARLY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION
PRESIDENT HONOURED. A very happy gathering took place at Hie residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. -Moore, Bidwell Street, on Wednesday night, when the executive, of the Early Settlers' and Historical Association assembled to do honour to their president, Mr. J. JO. .Tenkinson. Mr. John Smith, on behalf of the executive, presented Mr. and ill's. Jcultinson with a silver spiritkettle, suitably engraved, as a token of appreciation ui' the good work he bad accomplished. He hoped that Mr. Jenkinfim would continue :n the work, especially now there was so much to be dona to attain the 'iims of the association. Their ambition was a "home" of their own in. the shape of a hall, to be a memorial for nil time to the work of the pioneer settlers. .Mrs. Moore, Mr. Morris, and Major Vin?, and the sccre'ary (Mr. Edwards) also spoke. Mr. Jenkinson, in acknowledging the presentation, referred briefly to tlio efforts of the executive during the earlier days of the association, and of the ready assistance, financially, given at that time by those who appreciated and recognised the'work of the early settlers. He felt sure that if they pulled together tnd worked in the right way, they should have no difficulty in attaining their objects. Mrs. Jenkinson also spoke, and said she intended doing all in her power, to further the work of tho association. During the evening songs were eung by Mcsdnmes Ebbett, Moore, Hollis, e.nd Misses Moore and Ebbett.
