DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IN IRELAND
EOMAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS' PRONOUNCEMENT. London, January 28. Tho Roman Catholic bishops of Ireland have issiifV! a statement in which they deplore the dangerous conditions existing in tho country through oppression and the ill-advised curtailment of national liberties. They declare that the one true way of establishing friendly relations between England ond Ireland is to allow Ireland as a whole to choose its own form of government. 'I ho bishops ask the people to combine in abstaining from deeds of bloodshed and to prevent crime.—Router. ANOTHER, ATTEMPT AT ASSASSINATION. London. January 27. Another attempt to assassinate Sergeant Sullivan, V.C., was made while he was travelling from Cork to Tralce for the purpose of giving evidence against the eleven men charged in connection with the former attack. Three shots were fired into- tho train. Sergeant Sullivan escaped, but a detective was injured by -tho glass from the shattered window.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
