HUTT VALIEY ITEMS

There was a very poor attendance last night at tho public meeting called bv the Mayor of Peiono (Mr. J. W. M'Bwan) to consider tho council's proposal to 'hold a gala on the beach on-Easier Monday, for the purpose of bringing tho attractions of the foreshore under the notice of probable visitors. Besides the Mayor (who presided) and two councillors, there wore two representatives of tho Petono Rowing Club and two other citizens. The Mayor outlined the proposal, which was to hold a combined sjiorte meeting and regatta, with special provision for the children. It was also intended to try to provide side-shows, and if sufficient support was fot'th'.'oming in the way of willing workers, there could be little doubt of tho success of the proposal. Suggestions were received from those, present, and it was finally decided to adjourn the meeting until next week, Messrs. Ford, Haddock, London and Bedingfield being appointed a committee to bring the project under the notice of citizens with the object of having a bigi-' ger attendance at the next meeting.
