BAKERS' CONFERENCE

The annual conference of tho Master Bakers' Association of New Zealand opened yesterday, Mr. J. P. Laurenson (Duiiedin), president of the Dominion Executive, occupying tho chair. A' civic welcome was tendered by tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke, C.M.G.) to the visiting delegates. During the course, of his remarks the Mayor stressed tho point that the Dominion should produce sufficient wheat for its own consumption, and hoped that tho conference would pass a resolution confirming tho Government's action in this direction. He trusted that tho delegates' stay in Wellington would bo an 'enjoyable one, and wished them to fake a trip in tho observation car. which would be placed at their disposal. A short speech of welcome was also delivered by Air. A. H. Tonics (president of tho. Wellington Master Makers' Association). Mr. John Burton (Auckland) returned thanks on. behalf of tho visiting delegates.
