NEW PRICE .AGREEMENT TO BE MADE.

A representative) of the- Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Air. Astley, is in New Zealand at present to confer with the New Zealand Government regarding tho present shortage pf sugar supplies, and also regarding the snlo of sugar in future to New Zealand.

Concerning the shortage, it is very difficult to obtain reliable information. It is quito certain that there is a shortage of sugar in many localities, but it 1 is also said that there "is no such shortage in others, and as tho company claims to he turning out just about as much sugar as ordinarily, it is suggested that tliere is not really a serious shortage all over the Dominion.

The purchase is quito another matter. Tho Government has always in recent years controlled the price of sugcr. and the preliminary step to this control of pi ices has been to arrange a price at which the company will agree to sell sugar in quantity. The existing agreement with the company will soon expire, and a new one must bo made. It is for this purpose mainly that Mr. Astley lias come to New Zealand, and he will make the arrangement with Mr. Mnssey, as president of the New Zealand Board of Trade..
