; LYALL GAY CLUB'S TOURNAMENT FIRST DAY'S RESULTS Tho first day's play in l!ie Lyall Bay Club's annual tournstmcnt took place under conditions not altogether favourable. The sky was ovcreast and a stiff north-westerly gale blew throughout the day, making form a secondary consideration to luck, for it was one of those days when any rink, however constituted, stood an equal chance of going down with tho weakest. Still, a fine, genial spirit pervaded the green, and everyone who participated thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Three games were played yesterday, and another two are to be played tomorrow afternoon; Twenty-two rinlca took part in the tournament. No one had any cause to leave the jh'ound, as tho ladies concerned in the club served an excellent cold collation at 1 p.m., and afternoon tea at 4 p.m. The .tournament was opened by the president (Hr. A. Haven), who extended a very hearty welcome to all visitors, and expressed the hope that though the weather was windy and players would have to allow for "windage" Hint they would all have fifth-man inck. Three games would be nlayed that day and hvo moro on Saturday. Ho expressed tho hope that all the rinks that were playing would turn up on Saturday, so that no jrames woiild go by default. Mr. W. H. Mor.rah attended to the secretarial duties w>th his usual assiduity. Tho results were as follow:— FIRST ROUND.
