« ' MEETING- AT CARTERTON ■ (Special Correspondent.) 1 Carterton, January 21. The local bodies' representatives in connection with tho Wairarapa hydro-elec-tric schemc met'at Carterton yesterday, Mr. J. C. Cooper presided. The chairman explained that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of deciding whether tho sub-committee should uroceed with further work, pending tho establishment of the board. The Ixmndarv of the inner area had been defined, and was in otdor for presentation to the Govcrnor-General-in-Council. Tho committee had completed jits work, but there was still a large amount of work that oould be gone on with. There was tho question whether they should proceed with their own hcadworks, or wait for tho Government scheme. It would also be necessary to interview the Minister in charge of Public Works (when such Minister was appointed). As far iis the Manga had scheme was concerned tho prospect of supply from that source was not very bright. If the subeomniitee proceeded with the work, instead .of waiting for the board to bo set up, several of the best months of the summer for investigating purposes would bo saved. A compreliensivo and exhaustive report should bo obtained from another engineer, and if that was dono this summer a year would bo gained.

After a brief discussion, in which tho imuortnnce of proceeding with the work was stressed, it was resolved that the enh-eommitten should proceed with investigating: the Waiohine, and should procure a. comprehensive report, and that the local bodies represented should bn asked to share tho cost until tho power bojrd is appointed, and is in a position to rotund (he money Mr. H. P. Toogood was appointed engineer. and will have associated with him an officer of the Public Works Depart, ment to confer and prepare a joint rouort.
