AN INFANT'S DEATH
SUSPICION OP MURDER. By Telejjrapb.—PresH Association. Dunedin, January 22. An inquest opened to-day on the body of a newly-born infant which was found > in a sack oil St. Clair Beach on Tuesday, with a piece of lineu tied tightly round tho' neck. I)r. Evans said the body was fully developed and well nourished. There was a circular pressure on the neck, and he was of tho opinion that tho child had lived, and 'that the cause of death was asphyxia. There was no water in tlie Inngii, showing it had not been drowned. X constable said the bag iiad apparently been in the sea, but that it could not have been there long. It was found at highwater murk. Tho Coroner adjourned tho inquiry sine die.
