Entries for tho Hamilton, Tnranaki, and Dunccnn.meetings close to-night. Entries for the C.J.C. Midsummer Meeting close to-night. Judging by the quality and quantity of the fields at Trcntham on Tuesday next there is every reason to suppose that the Summer Meeting of the Wellington Racing Club will eclipse all previous meetings in tho matter of attendance. Accommodation in the city is being heavily taxed, and there will bo a record crowd of visitors. Those who are. in the habit of making the journey by rail, and this is certainly iho mast comfortable' way to reach the course, will be glad to know that as a result of a conference with the General Manager of Railways the Department will put on extra trains to Trenthnm, and there will be practically a 10-minute9' service from 10 a.m.

Considering how very common .£IOOO races are now in this country, it will probably be found that the ranks of owners will Imvo a great accession of strength in the near future. On this account buyers are sure to be numerous nt the AVaikanao sale of yearlings next week, and the Martian yearlings are expected to bring good prices. The sale is advertised to take place on Friday of next week.

The llawkc's Bay Jockey Club has applied to the N.Z. Racing Conference for permission to change tho dates of its Autumn Meeting from April 30 and May 1 to April 28 and 29.

The Tnkapunn Cup, which is worth 1000 sovs.. has only attracted a nomination of thirteen. Of these tho Messrs. Alison are responsible for five, the outsiders engaged being limited to two, Alteration and First Salute.

j Arrowsmith continues to get most \ votes lor the Telegraph Handicap to bo ' run on the opening day of the Wellington Cup Meeting. Owing to the hard etato of the 'faulioreiiikau tracks tho imported horse lias not been galloped sinco going into A. M'Aulays stables, Now that we have had such a good rain M'Aulr.y will probably bring his team to Trcnlham 10-<lay and give his horses a gallop on Saturday. The local owner, ilr. W. ITiggins, has been adding to his team of late. ITc lias purchased Sandy M'Donald and Risinghf.ni, and the pair have been sent to W. Pine at Hawera. The trainer named has now got a very big string in lus stable. , Not the least interesting feature of the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting on Wednesday next: will be the attempts by Cathedral Chimes and Author Dillon to lower tho mile record, Both horses will' make separate attempts, and will have the assistance of a galloping pacemaker. n , ~ The Australian Jockey Club recently decided that in all handicaps in whi.:h the highest weight allotted to an acceptor is less than 9st. it shall be raised to that weight, and the weights of other acceptors equally. A similar rule has bce-i in operation in England, for sumo years. At Trentham yesterday morning tna weather was line for training operations. All the galloping was done on the outsido of the course proper, which afforded perfect going. Royal Exchange, by herself,' galloped half u mile iti SOsec. The hvo-vear-olds Wake and Insurrec- , tion took imin. lisoc. to encompass five furlong*. Motuihi and Mascot took lmin. 30soo. over seven furlong*. 80-Peep was too good for the two-year-olds Blackmail and Vindictive over six furlongs, which took lmin. ICseo. Right and Left was. much ahead of Melee in a try-out over half a mile. The two-year-old did the journey under Moorfowl beat Tigntiya over three furlongs in 37sco. . Fuliea and Active went six furlongs and finished'together in lmin 17 3-ssec. Michaeln was ahead of Philomela in a bout over five furlongs, which took lmin. 3 2-sscc. . Swnnee River left half a mile behind in Msec., which time was equalled by Weary Willie and Idleness, who went together. Kilmoon, alone, took lmin. 18sec. over six furlongs. , _ Roval Stag, Nightraider, and Trespass /an five furlongs in lmin 2 3-sscc. Jlio first-named was.going the best at tlio finish. Others to do useful tasks wore Affectation, Rose Wreath, Printeinps, 'Rose Pink, Battle Song, Bonnie Maid, Battle Array, Makepeace, and Golden Cror.ier. Acceptances for the 'Wellington trotting Club's meeting close witn the secretary Mr. R. W. Short, at noon to-day.
