The conference of shipowners with the mariho emrineers, with a view to a settlement of the engineers' strike, proved futilo The Shipping Controller informed Mr. Hushes that tho engineers declined to compromise on their original demands. Mr. Hughes then spent two hours in talk with the members of the executive, but the efforts to reach agreement failed. The representatives will leave for their homes to-night, and the strike continues.—Press Assn. ——
