THE SAMOAN TRIP

STILL UNDEII CONSIDERATION.

The Government lias not abandoned the Samoan trip for this summer. The matter is still under considorat'on, and within a very few days some definite announcement should be made about it. Part of the fear that the trip might have to be abandoned was based on the misapprehension that it would not be advisable to .20 to Samoa, during the hurricane season, wli'ch.would have meant that the trip could not be undertaken before March at earliest. But there is net now the danger from hurricane.? that would warrant the postponement or abandonment of the voyage. In fact, the ordinary shipping trade goes on without interruption all through the year. The Government lias been in touch with the manager of the Union Company, and now the intcnt'on is to arrange for the Parliamentary party to leave for Samoa as soon as possible, probably, some time in February, returning durin." Mnr:h. Owing to other , urgent matters demanding his presence in New Zealand, it will not bo possible for Mr. Mnssoy to go. but Sir James Allen and some other Ministers will go, along with as many members of Parliament as care to make the trip. Mr. Massev' may tnlre another opportunity of visiting Samoa, but that opportunity is not likely to oi.cur before I next session of Parliament.
