SHORTAGE OF BENZINE
SHIPMENTS DUE DUEING THE MONTH. There is at present a temporary shortage of benzine in New Zealand, not owing to there being any diminution in supply, but owing to the recent 'big shipping strike on the East Coast of the United States, which upset the shipping rather seriously and prevented vessels taking benzine cargoes from getting away on schedule time. Locally the shortage is not being felt very acutely as the Waihorn is at present discharging a small cargo, the whole' of which was booked for Wellington customers of the Vacuum Oil Company. The AYnihora was at present discharging a shinment, all of which was besonhen in 'Wellington, but there were 'other shiiunenfs to arrive during the ■month, which it was hoped would arrive before the'shortage became acute. ; ' Mr. Cate, eeneral manager, is' at present on a visit to Australia. There is a benzine famine in Auckland., and several leading firms stated to-day that they are absolutely without stocks, Others have a few cases in hand, but these are being merely held for the completion, of regular orders. A enrgo of 50.000 eases is expected next week, and this should relieve tho position.
