At tho 'Municipal Theatre, Hastings, lost night, Uren and Clabby met in a, 15-round contest for a purso of .€SOO. lleforo tho proceedings commenced tho president (Mr. 11. M.' Campbell) announced that tho Hawko'sßay Boxing Association was adding a further .£SO to tho ■CiOO purso originally promised, and that Mr. W. G. Stead had that day. agreed to donate .£SO to tho same object. Tho president added that tho middle-weight championship of Australasia was involved. As tho pair faced tho huge audience' tho American appeared to liavo a substantial advantage in height, reach, and woight, but tlia early rounds quickly demonstrated how superior scicnco can niinimisQ a handicap of this kind. Clabby is a master at in-fighting, but in Uren he met more than his match on tho night, and tho referee's decision at tho close—in the Australian's, .'favour oil points—met with general approval. For every telling blow that Clabby sent homo in clinches Uren landfcd two or three, giving special attention to the left cheek <i.nd ribs of his opponent. Clabby endeavoured on several occasions to uso his length and speed to bring about a knockout, but tho marvellous footwork of Uren enabled him to avoid every onslaught. Many dangerous-looking swings were within a hair's breadth of reaching .their destination, but Uren showed 210 | concern, and when occasion offered retaliated with a lightning left. Although tho contest was chiefly one of in-fighting thero wero occasional brilliant rallies in tho open that aroused the unstinted applauso of tho audience. Both contestants vcro in tho pink of condition, llr.cn in particular being suporbly fit. From start to finish tho fifteen rounds wero cleanly jfriught, and with tho exception that Clabby's faco and ribs showed signs of puniahmont neither contestant appeared any tho worse for tho arduous experience. Prior to tho big event a number of amateur bouts wero ' contested with tho following results:—J. Kcenan (Auckland), Sst 131b., defeated G. Gunn ' (Hastings), Sst. 71b. A. Mussen (Hastings) 9st, 111b., defeated J. M'lvinley (Wellington), !>st. 12lb. R. Gray (Takapau), lOst, Sib., defeated A. Havill (A6lihursl), lOst. In the absence of lluino, who failed to pass the medical test, B. M'Cleary, of Dunedin, boxed all exhibition bout with T. Hecnov. of .Gisborno. Mr. Tom Tracey, of Wellington, was referee. As is usual with tho Hnwko's Bay Boxing Association, the ringsido arrangements were very complete. MORAN AND FULTON TO MEET. New York, December 30.
