Stead had that day. agreed to donate .£SO to tho same object. Tho president added that tho middle-weight championship of Australasia was involved. As tho pair faced tho huge audience' tho American appeared to liavo a substantial advantage in height, reach, and woight, but tlia early rounds quickly demonstrated how superior scicnco can niinimisQ a handicap of this kind. Clabby is a master at in-fighting, but in Uren he met more than his match on tho night, and tho referee's decision at tho close—in the Australian's, .'favour oil points—met with general approval. In the absence of lluino, who failed to pass the medical test, B. M'Cleary, of Dunedin, boxed all exhibition bout with T. Hecnov. of .Gisborno. Mr. Tom Tracey, of Wellington, was referee.
