Frenchman belonging to a reconstruction camp of mixed nationif.lUcs of stealing a hatchet. The Australians denied the accusation, but were assaulted. The Australians forced their way to tho door an<l ran down tho road. Tho assailants followed, firing a revolver. Ono of the Australians was killed ami the other was severely wounded. The comiiuinder of tho reconstruction eamp in a letter deeply regrets the incident, and pays warm tributes to" the Australians' gallantry in the war, and tho good conduct of those in (lie neighbourhood.
