WELLINGTON CENTRE'S ANNUAL TOURNAMENT GOOD PLAY UNDER GREY SKIES There was nothing in tho meteorological aspect yesterday morning to clicer the hearts of expectant' bowlers wiio were entered to nlay in tho Wellington Bowling Centre's annual tournament, due to commence at. !) am. The sky was an even iri-ev dome, with banks of sea-fog lvins low on the hill-tops, and a suspicion of moisture ill the cool air. There was a fall ol' light, misty rain before D a.m.. and in certain parts of tho city this continued more or less throughout the forenoon: but tho greens kept dry, and as tho day wore on tho lowering weather conditions remained passive, enabling plav to be continued under very good conditions, for there was next to no wind, and theinir was cool and pleasant. The tournament was opened at the 'Wellington Club's green by the president of the centre (Mr. George Hendry), who extended a hearty welcome to tho bowlers, and intimated that they were now playing under tho pre-war trophy system. T'liero were several rinks from outsido Wellington competing, and lie had no doubt that, if tho rain held off, they would all have a successful tournament. Comoetitors were asked by the proeramme to noto that tho umpires on tho various greens had been instructed to examine all bowls that were to be employed in the tournament eacli day, to see that each ono bore the test stamp as anproved by tho New Zealand Association. As tho result of this examination the bowls of several players were dismialifiod, and such men had to procure sfamned bowls before they could "go on with tho name." The secretarial work of Mr. S. H. Underwood, complete in every way, earned the commendation of all participants in tho tournament. The results of tho day's play aro as under:— FIRST BOUND.
