A PLUCKY ACT
TELEGRAPH MESSENGER SAVES A LIFE.

A Tory plucky act was performedl today bv a telegraph messenger named -Wit .- lia'ni 'Thomas, w.ho i>y his promptitude saved the life of a. .little fellow named William Frith. aged about right years. It appears that tile child was wading in the river ill the vicinity of Plymouth St ;?«< and got out of his depth. Sonio ci'h'cl! children who were playing on the bank realising the danger, gave the alarm, and attracted the attention ot Thomas (aged 1.5), who was returning to duty at the Post Office. He immediately went into the river to the assistance of Frith, who was in about five or six feet of water, and re-rued him by pitting his arm around ihim and swimming ashore. Two men whr, were on the bank, Mwr*. Percy Randall and H. Russell, of Wellington, had their attention drawn to the occurrence, and the former applied artificial .respiration, the boy sutaciently recovering to bo taken home If it had not been for the quick action of youna Thomas (which was most commendable), the bov Fril'h would certainly have lost his life.
