TROTTING

AUCKLAND MEETING. NORA CRFJNAInNS TROTTING CUP. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Auckland, December 27. The Auckland Trotting Club was fav r ourod with fine weather for the first day of its Antiimii Meeting. The attendance must have 'been a record for the course, the accommodation being taxed to tho utmost. The Trotting Cup was won' decisively by Nora Creina, who held a h/\ndy position . throughout the race. The field got away well, Gold Girl being the first to establish a lead, followed by Whisht and Nora Creina. With a mile gone, Nora Creina made a move forward and displaced AVhisht for second place. Dean Dillon then made an effort to get up to the leader, but fell back again. Colenut, who had been lying handy from the start, now came at the front division and got ahead of Gold Girl, but could not get level yitli Nora Creina, who won by several lengths with a good deal in hand. None of the other competitors was ever within striking distance._ Six horses faced the starter in tho Great Northern Trotting Derby, Hilda Pointer and Lady Swithin being strong favourites. The result proved that these wero the only two really in tho race. Milda Pointer shot out from the barrier anil established a good lead, but Lady Swithin quickly settled down and set out in pursuit, the two running away from the rest of the field. After about a mile had been traversed, Lady Swithin took command and hold her place to the finish, winning very comfortably. The suni put through the totalisator was XGS.-IG3 Ilk, against .£35,0(10 10s. for the corresponding day last year.
