TRAMWAY REVENUE.
RECORD ON CHRISTMAS EVE. The receipts in actual' cash on the Wellington municipal tramways on Christmas Eye amounted to ,£1059. which constitutes, a new record for one day's takings. On the previous Christmas Eve (191S). the cash receipts only amounted to iCT.'if), so Hint the increase wa> very considerable. Owing to the very uncertain, and in one instance Urn absolutely unfavourable, weather the holiday figures on the whole wee poor. For example, the receipts 011 Boxing Day, 1918, were about <£GSO, but this year, on account of the persistent rain, the amount taken on the trams was just a little over .CSOO. On Christmas Day the ordinary Sunday service was maintained, but there was little business dpin? owing to the dull, threatening state of the weather. There was a rumour current that the men in the power-house intended to decline work on Christmas Day. but an arrangement was made with thejr which prevented any stoppage of the service, which may have caused considerable inconvenience to the general public.
