CALEDONIAN CONCERT

CALEDONIAN CONCERT. Chief David Clark presided at a Scottish concert held by the 'Wellington Caledonian Society in the Town Hall last night. This concert was to have followed tho sports which the socicty had arranged to held during tho day, but tho weather compelled' tho postponement of tho sports, and it also reduced tho attendance at the ovening entertainment. Somo hnndreds'of people who braved tho heavy rain wero rewarded with a very attractivo programmo of - pipo music, song, and dance. Tho society's pipers provided the opening march, and contributed other numbers during the evening. There wero Highland dances by the society's juvenile dancers, and by visiting dancers, who showed tho form that they would have displayed on the contest platform the Clerk of tho Weather had been kinder. A 'cello selection "Scottish 'Fantasia," by Mr. Noel Monkman, with Miss K. Gelhor at tho piano, was one of tho musical 6uc'ccsses of the | evening. Mr. Austin Blackio contributed a tenor solo, "Laurette," and had to jespond to several recalls. Misses Doris and Marjorio Clark sang ducts in which their tuneful voices blended iprettily. Mndame Billy Green sang "Comin' Thro' the Rye." Humorous items were contributed by Mr. Will M'Keon and Mr. C. Ramsay. Tlio most Successful individual performer of tho .evening was Master Griove, tho youthful Scottish humorist who delighted audiences recently at the competitions. Master Grieve, who is aptly described as a youthful Harry Lauder, sang "Killiccrankie," "Stop Your Tic Klin', Jock," and "I'd Love to bo a Sailor." His numbers were enioyed immensely, and wero enthusiastically applauded. The concert will bo repeated this evening, when Mr. C. Smythe, who was unable to be present last night, will contribute basso solos. Tho programmo will also includo a danco competition for the M'Gregor Challenge Cup between the holders of the highest aggregate points at the sports contests.
