o ..POSTPONED ON ACCOUNT OP HAIN. The finiumencement of tho tennis tournament had to be iwstponed yesterday on account of the weather. If tho ram ceases in the night, play will begin at 9 a.m. to-day, half an. hour earlier than previously arranged. There are. in fact, to bo two tournaments played during tho coming week. First of all. there will be the New Zealand championships, which will occupy four days, and then the Wellington championships, which-will also occupy some four days, about citrht days in all. Tho first three davs of the New Zealand tournev will be taken up with general play, and unless more bad weather interferes, the fourth day should be left clear for tho finals. . The. matches are to be played on the Wellington College ground, in tho corner nearest to the pavilion, and this piece of the ground is sheltered from the rage of tho northerly wind. A pood deal of preparation has been given to tho turf, ana tho courts should play well. So dry was the around that the rain of yesterday had little effect on it. Yesterday afternoon half an hour of sunshine would have'made the ground quite fit for play. This morning, if the sk,ies are not still woppinff. iho courts will li&vc to bo cut ami rolled and re-marked. This will take some time, but it is honed that everything will be in readiness for play to begin at 9 o'clock.
