CHRISTMAS CHURCH SERVICES

The liev 11. Watson conducted morning and evening son-ices at St. Peter's Church on Christmas Day. In the- evening the choir sang some very beautiful old Christmas carols. Dr. W. Kington FvfFe presided at the organ. There were services at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 11 a.m., and 730 p.m. at St, Mark's Church, Dufferin Street, on. Christmas Day. The clnirch was florally decorated by' the Ladies' Decorating 'Guild, and presented a very pretty sight. His Lordship tho Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott) conducted the 11 a.lll. service, and administered Holy Communion at its close. At the evening service, tho clioir, under Mr. Laurence Watkins, sang a number of beautiful carols, and Mr. Watkins played Handel's "Pastoral Symphony" (from "The Messiah"). The Rev. A. T 13. Page (acting-vicar) conducted the early morning and evening services. At St. Thomas's Church, Newtown, fivo services were held during the morning, and one in the evening. The first morning service commenced ill 6.15 o'clock, and subsequent services were held at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m., and 11.30 am. After the evening service, the choir sang a number of very eharm'ng old English carols, and Mr. \V. Collie gave a brief organ recital. Tho church was beautifully decorated with flowers, Christmas lilies predominating. Holy Communion was administered after each of tho forenoon services, all of which were eondueled by the Rev. W Fnncourt. The attendances were good at all services. A service was conducted in the Tnranaki Street Wcslcyan Church on Christmas night, by the Rev. 11. T. Read, in the absence of the Rev. J. G. Chapman, who is ind'sposed. Tho choir sang appropriate hymus. At the Newtown Methodist Church appropriate services uxro conducted on Christmas morning and evening by the Revs. Dv. Pinfold and E. Drake High Mass was celebrated at the Hill Street Basilica, at ,10.30 a.m. on Christinas Day, His Grace Archbishop Redwood preaching tho sermon 011 Ihe feast that was 'being observed. Tho Rev. Father Oignan was the celebrant, tho Rev. Father O'Donnell, deacon, and the Rev. Father Smyth suli-deacon. Services were also held at 7 a.m. and !) am., all ticing well attended. Tliq choir wa? present in good strength at tho 11 a.m. service. Archbishop O'Shea celebrated Pontifical High Mass at 10.M a 111. on Christmas Day at St. Joseph's Church, Buckle Street. He nlso preached a brief sermon on the feast of the day. The Ret, Falhor Outtrim was deacon, Rev. Father O'Connor sub-deacon, and the Rev. Father Hurley master of ceremonies.
