CHRISTMAS AT TRENTHAM CAMP
On Christmas Day the patients at the Trentliani Military Hospital were not forgotten, and thanks to the Red Cross Society and, tho Y.M.C.A. they spent a very enjoyable day. Tho Salvation Army distributed gifts on tie Wednesday, nnd previous to that Mrs. Luke nnd a party of ladies had given each man a Christmas present. On Christmas morning the Y.M.C.A. distributed {rifts. This ■was followed by a special dinner. Tho wards were all decorated with ferns,' floivers, and coloured streamers, and the dinner itself was all that could bo dosired. In tihe afternoon a concert party from the Y.M.C.A., under Mr. W. ll.' Gondii', who has brought' over 400 concert parties to tho camp since tho beginning: of tho war, visited wards 1. 2. nnd 10, and B Mock. Mr. C. R v Smith. manager of the Alliance Assurance speaking in ward 2 on behalf of tho concert party, wished tho boys a merry Christmas, and hoped that they would thorough.;, ly enjoy themselves. .Lator, in ward 10, speaking for the boys, lie thanked the party • for their fino performances.. Tho grand finale took place in the Rod Cross Club in tho evening, when Father Christmas distributed gifts from the Christmas tree. Araonjist the many present were:—Colonel and Mrs. Wylie, Mrs. Powles. Captain and Mrs. Crawford, Miss Y. M'Lean (matron-in-chief). Miss M'lian (matron), Sister Wright' (submatron), Miss Monckton, and' Miss Beckett (Rod Cross Club), Mr. M'Eldowney (Y.M.C.A.), Mr. A. Varney (general j'-'.io-ial secretary, Y.M.C.A.), Mr. G. W. W. B. Hughes (general secretary), Mr. and Mrs. Ewen, Miss Ewen, anil Mrs. Pearce. There was a large gathering of sisters,' nurses, and patients. The Y.M.C.A. concert party, consisting of Misses T. Barry 1 H. Kutner. V. Kutner, and Messrs. A. Blackie, E. Mentes, nnd W. IT. Goudie, entertained those present with several musical items and songs till the arrival of Father Christmas. The Christmas t"ee was well lit up with candles and Ohineso lanterns, nnd Pte. G". T{. Freeman, a Gallipoii veteran, made an admirable Santa Clans. The distribution of the gifts on the Christmas tree was followed bv further musical items. 'Before tho 'Y.M.C.A. . concert party left. Sister Adams rendered a song on behalf of tho sisters anil nurses, and Colonel' Wylin thanked tile party for their ui'selfipilrnes? in coming to the camp, and called for three cheers for theni. _ These were heartily given, and /'For They'ro Jolly Good Feflowj" followed. After supper and an impromptu dance, the party broke up. The men outside the hospital domains wcro given a Christmas dinner by tho Ked Cross Society. Tho majority of them wero able to obtain leave, and consequently no concerts or entertainments wo held for their benefit.
