HOLIDAY TRIPPERS
BOATS AND TRAINS RUSHED.
Never in the history of Wellington has there been such a rush by residents lo get out of the city. After being bottled up for the war years, there is r.o doubt a desire on tho i>art of many to gut out of the town for a brief period, for all Wellington appears to be buzzing round tho railway and shipping offices. At 2.30 p.m. yesterday the Railway Departinent's bureau was not only crowded, but a queue, which had its bead at the counter and a tail that reached well down' Harbour Street, patiently waited their turn. This continued until ■!• p.m., when the demand gradually lessened up till closing time. Tho indications are that the trains leaving Wellington to-day and to-morrow will he very heavy ones. There will be an unusuallybig migration to Auckland this year. i A crowd three or four deep surrounded the extensive counters at the Union Steam Shi]) Company's office throughout' vesterday, all keen on booking passages 'for ports near and far. The bulk of the steamer traffic is between Wellington and Lvltelton and Wellington ami Nelson, wliich is quite customary at this timo of the year. The Maori and Monowai left for the south last evening; the Mararoa and Mokoia leave to-day, and to-morrow the Maori and Monowai again make the trip. The Mapounka, for Nelson, will be a full ship to-day, and to-morrow the Pateena will leave here for Picton only at noon and returning at once will leave for Nelson at 11 p.m.
