SIR JOSEPH WARD

MEETING AT WAVERLEY. • Br Tcleersnh—Prrt:* Association. Waverley, December 10. Sir Josenh Ward,. Leader of the Liberal Party, addressed a largq audience in tho Town' Hall, Waverley, this evening, and had a most cordial reception, being cheered for some minutes upon entering the hall. The chairman oi the Waverley Town Board (Mr. E, A. Hart) presided. Sir Joseph AVard spoke for upwards of two hours, much on the lines of his recent pronouncements at Hastings and Martinborough, and received a most orderly hearing throughout. In concluding his address, the speaker said that no matter how the elections went on the 17th, he would take the people's verdict like a man, and would not say hard things about anyone. However, from the evidence throughout the country, it was apparent that the Liberal Party was going back to power. _ Sir Joseph Ward introduced Mr. W. Morrison, Liberal candidate for the Patea. seat, who occupied a seat on the platform, to the audience, and said he would like to see that gentleman in Parliament. Oil the motion of Mr. J. Bourke, sec- 1 onded by Mr. Hooper, a hear,ty vote of thanks was passed to Sir Joseph Ward for his address, and a vote of confidence in the Liberal Party, as .the party best fitted to' represent New Zealand, was carried, amidst enthusiasm.
