MR. HOLMS AT ALFRE.DTOX. By Telegraph—From a Correspondent. Alfredton, December I). Mr. A. C. Holms, Independent Democratic candidate for the Masterton sent, addressed a large audience at Alfredton last night. Mr. S. 11. George, J.P., presiding. The candidate delivered an address summarising tho political situation in relationship to democratic progress. He contended that the i.'icideneo of taxation was unfair to small farmers and the cohstructive element of labour, also to those with family responsibilities. Ho made a strong appeal in support of the group head id by Colonel Mitchell, Messrs. Veiteh, Holland and Stewart.
On the motion of M r.'Foster Percy, a leading settler, the following resolution was unanimously and enthusiastically carried: "That the best thanks be accorded to Mr. Holms for bis able speech, coupled with an expression of opinion that he is well qualified to represent the electorate in Parliament." <
