HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

.FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Tho fortnightly meeting of tho Lower Jlutr Borough Council was held on Monday, when there were present tho Mayor (Mr. E. P. Risliworth) and Councillors Willoughby, Knight, W. Mehlrum, E. J. Guineas, J. Mitchell, A. Macaskill, W. Cotton, W. B. Hardy, A. J. West, and A. J. Hobbs. . ,

The secretary of tho Wellington Cricket Association advised that tho Ilawko's Bay and Wellington match would not take place, but that arrangements were being inado for Wairarapa and Manawatu to play on December 25 and 2G, and asked lor tho use of tlio recreation ground on tho eamo terms as before, and this was granted.

Permission was granted to the headmaster of tho Western Hutt School to hold a sports meeting for tho children from one till three o'clock on AVedncsday afternoon next on the recreation ground. Mr. C. T. Natusch wrote enclosing a deed of grant of a right-of-way from Onehuka Road through lot 7 to lot G of the Tirohanga Estate, and asked . tho council to conscnt to same. It was referred to the borough solicitor. It was decided to closo a portion of Raroa Road as requested by the Education Board, and to present that piece of land to tho board for the purpose of extending the playground of the Eastern Hutt School, the board to pay the cost of transfer and the gift to be subject to tho removal of the mains laid in tho street. This course wa9 adopted as a' result of advice having been received from the borough solicitor as to the council's power in this connection.

The engineer (Mr* E. A. Gumbley) reported that the now pumping plant had been erected, and, as soon as the suction chamber n.nd main were completed, would be t'eady for operation in the event of a heavv draw-off. The new portion of tho building would then be proceeded with, provided they were not held up for cement.' The work of scarifying- and reKrudins . the "Jlrvirt Road had now been resumed: that Portion between the Nai Nai Lane and Park Avenue being treated at present ' When that was finished the portion between the Bank of 'New Zealand and King's Road would receive attention. This had been attended to. The kerbine. where sunken, on the north-west side of tlie Jfairi Road beyond Brunswick Street, had been raised. Twelve new ras connections were laitf during the month of November. During, the month of November three new connections had been made with the sewers and one with 'the storm-water drain. Instructions for n house-to-house inspection of tho borou"h had been given to the inspector. The engineer recommended an increase of pav for the collector on account of increased work. He was instructed to make innumes as to the cause'of the increased work.
