WELLINGTON BAKERS
A NEW AWAED. A new award governing the conditions of work of the Wellington - operative bakers and pastrycooks and their labourers has boen made by tho Arbitration Court. The award operates throughout the Wellington industrial district, and is to be in force from December 29, IDIO, to December 5!), 1921; Some of the principal provisions are detailed below:— Wages are fixed as follow:—Foreman baker or pastrycook, £i sb. per week-; journeyman taker or pastrycook. -C 3 15s. per week; baker's or pastrycook's labourer, .£.l s*. per week. In addition to the minimum rates prescribed above, there';' : -ri,to be paid to the workers a 1 --1--.1" ■':. pp r week, unless and until ■jflenr in, otherwise order. Overtime'id to be naid at the rate of time.a'nd a half for the first three hours, iind then double time for all work up to 8 p.m. All work is in cease from 8 run. tn midnight, and double time is to be naid for all work done between midnight and the starting lime for bakers, pr>=tvycnoks, and their labourers. The hour's of work for ordinary bakeries are defined at some length. There are also many clauses governing apprenticeship, and there are special provisions regarding work in "automatic" bakeries.
